Week 8 Progress

Image
Pinterest Using the progress chart and looking at what I've done so far in the class, I know I'm a bit behind. I'm about 30 points off from having a C in the class. Like I mentioned in previous posts, this is because I've been caught up with some non-school projects and let myself get behind. This isn't the only class in which that's happened, either.  When I think about the rest of the semester, I know I want to get back into the routine that I had the first few weeks. I was getting everything done at least a day before the deadline, and working ahead when I could. I'm definitely going to have to get some extra credit in at some point to make sure I pass the class. Of course, passing is all I need since I'm graduating and am not worried about my GPA. Here's to the last second half of the semester I'll ever have!

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

Image
1. Feedback In: I have loved reading the comments I've gotten in class so far. I've only written three stories but everyone's comments have been so kind and made me feel good. I've taken different approaches in each of my stories, and in each one my readers have said that they liked what I did/how I told the story. 2. Feedback Out: I'm not going to lie, I haven't given out much feedback so far. Sometimes I'm just too busy to get to the Blog Comments assignment, but I hope to be able to do more the second half of the semester. 3. Blog Comments: I do feel like I am able to get to know people/relate to them through their introduction posts, as well as I feel like my post helped others get to know me. I love taking pictures of everything and everyone, so I left a bunch of pictures in my Introduction post and everyone said that it really helped show them who I am and what's important to me. 4. Looking forward: I think the feedback comments are great, I just n

Week 8 Reading and Writing

Student Writing I can't believe it's already halfway through the semester! Looking back, I can see that I was keeping up with the assignments really well for the first four weeks or so, and then things started getting a little intermittent. I had been working on some outside of school projects, as well as working a part-time job that leaves me exhausted when I get home, so I know exactly why that is. I am overall satisfied with my blog and my website so far, but of course when I get back to working on my Storybook I'm sure I'll find some changes to make. This second half of the semester I should be less busy (hope I'm not jinxing myself, haha), and I'm excited to get to work more on my Storybook! My favorite reading so far would be the Ramayana, mainly because I didn't get to finish the Mahabharata. I may try to finish it at some point for extra credit reading. My favorite story I've written so far would probably be the "Squirrel's are Special,&

Storybook Plan

iStock acting image This storybook will feature Anika and Anil, two actors starring in the upcoming American film adaptation of the Ramayana. Both Anika and Anil were raised in America but have a strong connection to their Indian culture and have always loved the Ramayana. At first I was thinking I would include them acting out the scenes, but Laura pointed out that since we already know the Ramayana it might be better for word count sake not to include those. These three stories will all be part of one overarching story, and I think I will tell all of them from Anika's point of view, first person! The main idea I want to explore here is how love stories and relationship issues have been happening since the beginning of time (so to speak), and that sometimes life can look a lot like art (or history, however one might view the Ramayana). But, also that we are still mostly in control of our lives and it's best to do what feels most right, even if you have to put yourself out ther

Reading Notes: Tiny Tales from the Mahabharata, Part A

Image
Amba I just finished reading Part A of the Mahabharata and so far it's just okay. For now I still like the Ramayana better (it's also easier to spell), but we'll see if that changes as I get further into this epic. The episodes I found most interesting in this first part were the ones about the Kashi princes being kidnapped by Bhishma. I was curious why he was able to just take them and no one continued to try to get them back. I was even more surprised when Amba when back to her fiance and he turned her away because she "belonged" to Bhishma. This definitely reminds me of when Rama was skeptical about letting Sita come home with him, and of course we know he eventually sent her back into exile. This tells us a lot about the culture of the time and how women were viewed.  I might like to retell the story of Amba being taken away and eventually taking her life in order to speed up her revenge on Bhishma. Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia in RAMAYAN. This storybook will feature Anika and Anil, two actors starring in the upcoming American film adaptation of the Ramayana. Both Anika and Anil were raised in America but have a strong connection to their Indian culture and have always loved the Ramayana. Story 1: My idea for the first story is to show them both meeting and having an instant connection, just like Rama and Sita did. Then I would flash forward to them acting out Rama and Sita meeting and getting married, and would end the scene somehow showing that they are now dating in real life. Story 2: The second story, there would be something to cause the two actors to break up. I'm not sure yet what it will be, but they've gotten in a fight and are no longer together but of course still have to see each other every day. I would then write them acting out Sita's exile, and Anika would be crying real tears because of how much she is hurting over her fight with Anil. Story 3: Th
